2020 INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF THE NURSE AND MIDWIFE
Professor Shearer will be opening a series of workshops over 2020 designed to celebrate the International year of the Nurse and Midwife. 2020 marks 200 years since the birth of Florence Nightingale and in that time the profession has come a long way. We do not want to miss this extraordinary opportunity to mark this momentous occasion.
Professor Shearer qualified as a nurse in 1997 and soon took on a university role in order to support and develop others. As a Matron she experienced amazing opportunities visiting Australia and America, before moving to London for almost three years as Director of Nursing in a Trust with significant challenge. She describes jumping from Band 8a to 9, far away from home, in a very different culture, as one of the toughest experience of her life,
"There were dark days but I learned so much in a move I will never regret. I have met amazing, humbling and inspiring nurses, patients and families and those early drivers remain the motivators within me today. Work hard, make a difference and be a team player"
